My work concerns the subjectivity of perception. I like to explore the relation, balance and the border between the physical and the mental space and how their involvement determines our perception of space. The work I make has a direct relationship to the buildings and landscapes I visit. The tension between the physical connection I want to have with my surroundings and simultaneous need to get away from it, determines my work in many ways.

Three recurring elements in my work are the landscape, the house and the chair. By using these elements I analyse their function and possible meaning to research the concepts of perceiving and occupying space. For me, their properties have a special function concerning the space they embrace. They provide basic experiences about in- and outside space and evoke different ways of perception.
I like to take the viewpoint from the inside of a house onto the landscape outside. The frame it offers me is a viewpoint where everything is far away and I can’t
get to it. I try to occupy this image. I want to own the landscape by getting it inside the house.

I compare the chair with the house. To me they have the same relation to a landscape. I see both, the house and the chair, as an observatory from where the gaze can find a fixation point. They represent the location of where I am. The landscape on the other hand, I experience as everywhere I could possibly be.
I try to capture this friction between nearness and distance in one image. I am interested in exploring the potential that the landscape, the house and the chair have, to acquire a new meaning different from their original function. I achieve this by changing their scale or giving them a human quality through which they seem to have their own will. The resulting installations vary in media dependent on the idea I am working on. For me it is important that these installations are never in a static final moment. I want to keep a kind of openness to research different forms and meanings in the work itself. I depart from internal impulses capturing and framing external realities and transform them in a way that the audience can enter into my own world that shifts their own realities.
